Nikos Mantzaris

Senior Policy Analyst and Partner, The Green Tank

Nikos holds a Bachelor’s Degre in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science from the University of Minnesota (USA) and postdoctoral studies in Mathematical Biology (Department of Mathematics, University of Minnesota).

He was an Assistant and then an Associate Professor with tenure of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Biomedical Engineering departments at Rice University (Houston, TX), where he conducted research in several aspects of sustainability. After returning to Greece, he worked as a scientific adviser at the office of the Greek Green MEP where he concentrated on European policy issues related to climate change and energy. He then worked at WWF Greece until 2018 as the head of the Climate and Energy Policy Sector, where he did policy, documentation, advocacy and campaigning work on the shift of the energy model from fossil fuels to renewables as well as the just transition of coal mining regions to the post-lignite era both at the national and European levels.

He is currently the Senior Policy Analyst at the Green Tank, a think tank focusing on energy, climate change and the protection of the environment.
