Joseph Mellott

Deputy Head, OSCE Mission to Serbia

Joe Mellott joined the OSCE Mission to Serbia as Deputy Head of Mission in September 2017. He comes to Serbia with nearly 20 years of service with the U.S. State Department. Prior to coming to Belgrade, Joe studied Serbian after completing a Master’s Degree in National Security and Resource Strategy at the National Defense University’s Eisenhower School. His previous diplomatic postings include Libya, Afghanistan, the U.S. Mission to NATO, Bangladesh, and several tours in Washington with the Ambassador for War Crimes Issues, the Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy, the Bureau of African Affairs, and the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. Joe has also worked in Australia, Albania, and Mongolia. Joe has a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and an M.A. in German and European Studies from Georgetown. He also received a Graduate Diploma in Management from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.

In addition to English, Joe speaks German, French, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Bengali, and Albanian.
