Ionuț Sibian

Executive Director, Civil Society Development Foundation & Member, European Economic and Social Committee

Ionuț Sibian is the executive director of the Civil Society Development Foundation (FDSC), one of the most influential NGOs in Romania. After Romania’s accession to the European Union in 2007, Ionuț Sibian was elected to represent the Romanian NGOs in the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). His work in EESC focused on Western Balkans and civil society enabling environment, he was the President of the Western Balkans Committee in the EESC, the Chair of the EU – Serbia Joint Consultative Committee, EESC Rapporteur for EU enlargement strategy and IPA II and III.  Currently he is serving as a member of the Western Balkans Follow up Committee and member of the External Relations Section Bureau. His previous experience includes President of the Romanian Federation of Development NGOs (FOND), Board member of the German Marshall Fund programme -  Black Sea Trust  and member of various Boards of Romanian and European organisations. Currently, he serves as member of the Orange Foundation Board. He completed his MA in International Relation at the Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies, University of Bucharest, and a Master’s Program on South East European Studies, supported by the European Union under the Stability Pact at University of Atehns. In 2009 Ionut Sibian was Marshall memorial Fellow, German Marshall Fund of the US, Washington DC.
